Trump issues nightmares. We issue Dreams.

Trump just tweeted that he will be signing an executive order to temporarily suspend immigration to the United States.

He said he would be signing the order “in light of the attack from the Invisible Enemy, as well as the need to protect the jobs of our GREAT American Citizens.”

Like most things, the details of this tweet are unclear.

To be clear: Trump is responsible for the gravity of this pandemic.

Thanks to the triplets of Trump, his GOP, and his news station (Fox), the US now leads the world in coronavirus cases and corona deaths (well, we are #1— and Trump did promise Americans that we’d be “winning.” In fact, he literally warned us that we’d be “sick” from “winning”).

We are watching a cruel textbook use of wagging the dog— it feels “Reichstag-esque” and the toll of human suffering is horrific. This, one week after Trump withdrew funding from the World Health Organization in the world’s worst health crisis (which makes as much sense as urgently needing a doctor, finding one, and then dropping an anvil on the doctor’s head).

As Trump continues to attack the Statue of Liberty (who was modeled after a Muslim woman) and all that Lady Liberty stands for, we need to move away from his Nightmare and embrace his enemies: the ones who call themselves Dreamers.

America is a story of Dreams versus Nightmares. We are now at this crossroads of which way we will go. We must stand in solidarity with the Dreams. From Dr. King’s Dream to the Dreamers themselves, we have reached a dark hour:

America must decide if we are going to pick our Nightmares or our Dreamers.
